Blade Runner Barbie (2000)

Blade Runner Barbie was my final project for a Video Production class taught by Diane Gromala, as part of the Information Design curriculum for my Masters Degree. In addition to learning hands-on production skills, the overarching theme of the course was to examine representational issues of the body through visual media. For this project and for many of the smaller assignments in the course, I chose to work with dolls and stop-motion animation rather than live actors. Barbie and other dolls are rich fodder for body/gender issues and body image associations, which I chose to explore within a parody of the science fiction movie Blade Runner's own powerful critique of the nature of humanity within genetically engineered, artificial beings.
